Operation Mechanism 

Smart glass operates based on the arrangement of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLC) under the effect of an electric field applied between two transparent ITO (indium tin oxide) electrodes.

  • When voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align in parallel, allowing light to pass through, and the glass becomes transparent.

  • When voltage is removed, the molecules are randomly oriented, causing light to be reflected or scattered within the polymer matrix, making the glass appear opaque.

The switching between transparent and opaque states takes place in LESS THEN ONE SECOND.
